Corfu Butterfly Survey

The Corfu Butterfly Survey (CBS) is intended to be a collaborative effort to record and map the distribution and seasonal abundances of all Corfiot butterfly species. We hope that you will participate in this endeavour by submitting photographs of the butterflies and their different life stages, as well as the Corfiot landscapes you see them in.

However, early in the development of this project, it became apparent that an automated website had the potential to record butterflies from just about anywhere in the world. The realisation of this possibility made us recognise that this portal could do far more that it was originally intended to do.

So whilst we decided to maintain our focus on recording the butterflies from Corfu, we have simultaneously opened up this website’s capacities to all recorders of butterflies in the broader, eastern Mediterranean, so they may slowly build up their own understanding of the butterfly communities that exist in their chosen region of study. So, if for example, you are interested in the butterfly fauna of Rhodes, you would be able to store your records from that island on this website and use it’s mapping and phenological technologies to aid your work.

That said, the primary objective of this project is to study the butterfly assemblages of Corfu and so that is where the principal focus of this website will rest, at least initially.
